LANCASTER – Saying many of its fees are “very low” or “outdated” compared to neighbouring townships, South Glengarry will review its various charges surrounding local development.
Planning General Manager Joanne Haley gave township council an overview of the fees Monday night and is recommending council consider increasing fees to be “reasonable and comparable” to North Glengarry and South Stormont.
Haley says one of the most common applications is for a minor variance. South Glengarry charges $400 while South Stormont charges $550-650 and North Glengarry charges $500. Other fees include charges for condominium and subdivision plans, official plan amendments and cell tower permits.

CORNWALL – Cornwall Transit is planning a “modest” fare increase for riders, starting in May.
But some users of the system may not notice it when they wave their credit or debit card because the city is also installing electronic fareboxes as part of its capital plan for 2021.
The city’s budget doesn’t exactly say how much the increase will be but Cornwall Transit Manager Len Tapp may spell it out when he presents his budget in more detail this afternoon (Feb. 1) during the city budget meeting.

CORNWALL – A Cornwall man is accused of leaving a facility in the city in the midst of a coronavirus outbreak when he was ordered to self-isolate.
The Cornwall Police Service says the 73-year-old man was given a ticket yesterday (Jan. 26) under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act for failing to comply with an emergency order.
As part of its policy, the police force doesn’t identify people charged with provincial offences.
Police also did not say at what facility it happened Tuesday, but CPS spokesman Stephanie MacRae said it was an “assisted care housing facility” in the city.
