The motorist had been involved in a single-vehicle crash at about 10:30 p.m. at westbound Interstate 80 near Midway Road. California Highway Patrol officers arrived shortly after that and the tow truck driver left the area.

Solano DA releases new details in deadly CHP shooting along I-80 An outside review of the circumstances that led to the shooting continues. Two California Highway Patrol officers investigating reports of a single-vehicle crash shortly after 10:30 p.m. Jan. 30 on westbound I-80 west of Dixon Avenue in the area of Oday Road, which fronts I-80 for a stretch between Dixon and Vacaville, shot the man in the vehicle after he pulled a loaded gun on them, authorities report. The names of the two officers were not released. District Attorney Krishna Abrams’ office issued an update Friday that states the man was armed with a handgun and drew it on the officers before they shot him.
