1 dead in single-car crash in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A man died in a single-car crash late Thursday night, police said.
The 39-year-old Homer man was driving on W. Michigan Avenue near Callahan Road in Parma Township, west of Jackson, around 11:40 p.m., Jan. 14, when he crashed, Michigan State Police said.
He was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police are not releasing the man’s name at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Parma-Sandstone Fire Department and Jackson Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Driver dies in Jackson County after crashing into tree, police say

TOMPKINS TWP., MI – A car left the roadway and struck a tree Saturday night, killing the driver, police say.
Emergency crews were called at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, to the area of Springport Road and Minard Road in Tompkins Township for a report of a single vehicle crash with fatal injuries, according to the Michigan State Police.
The early investigation indicates the driver was going north on Springport Road when it left the roadway and hit a large, raised planter and a tree, police said.
The identity of the driver is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification and no additional information is being released as the crash remains under investigation, police said.

UPS driver discovers man frozen to death in front of his Michigan home

CAMBRIDGE TWP. The body of an 80-year-old man was found frozen in front of his house Wednesday by a UPS employee.
Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a call at about 6:15 p.m. from the UPS employee about a person in the roadway outside his residence in the 400 block of Knapp Road in Cambridge Township and dispatched emergency personnel, according to Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Larry Rothman.
State police troopers arrived at the scene and found Richard Theodore Kokochak lying in a curved driveway close to his car.
