“The pandemic has taken an economic toll on our communities and has left many families struggling to pay the bills and make ends meet,” Menendez said.
“Thankfully, the American Rescue Plan is delivering this much needed funding so that communities across New Jersey can increase safe and healthy housing options to support individuals and families who’ve found themselves without a home or on the brink of losing their home during the pandemic.”
15 housing authorities received federal funding and Jersey City received the second largest allocation on the list, with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs receiving the bulk of the allocation: $11,530,452.

To help those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, Jersey City will expand outreach efforts with a $2 million commitment.
According to an announcement from Mayor Steven Fulop, the Jersey City Housing Authority (JCHA,) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), these funds will be used to enhance health and social services through community partner and operator of Jersey City’s drop-in site, Garden State Community Development Corporation (GSCDC).

“We are excited to work with our local housing partners to help public housing residents find jobs and opportunities that will propel them forward. The funding announced today will help residents reach their goals and dreams tomorrow,” HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge said in a statement.
The ROSS grant is “a place-based program” designed to assist residents make progress towards economic and housing self-sufficiency.
Service coordinators provide case management, assess residents’ needs, and work in partnership with local service providers to fulfill those needs.
