The webinars will be held virtually from 5 to 6 p.m. Central time Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23. The topics and presenters are: Feb. 2: “Learn about disposal options for butcher waste and the process of composting butcher waste” - Mary Keena, Extension livestock environmental management specialist based at NDSU’s Carrington Research Extension Center Feb 9: “Diversify your crops: high-tunnel cut flower production” - Esther McGinnis, NDSU Extension horticulturist, and “What to expect with farm-to-school and farmers markets” - Jan Stankiewicz, NDSU Extension community health and nutrition specialist

Farm Progress WILLING TO TRY: Farmers are increasingly looking for better ways to improve their soil and their bottom line. For many, that means planting soybeans into corn crop residue. Don’t let fear stop you from trying new crop management practices on your farm, they say. Farming practices get entrenched in an operation, as farmers simply build on what was done by their fathers, grandfathers and beyond. Changing those practices and ways of thinking can be a big first step to a new beginning. Three North Dakota farmers shared the “why” behind their practices and tips for other producers during the Dakota Innovation Research and Technology Workshop, a virtual event hosted by the North Dakota State University Extension.
