Tompkins County Public Library offers summer programs for all ages

Programs for kids, teens, and adults will continue through August 7 and have outdoor and virtual programs, games and prizes. A grant provided by the Bernard Carl and Shirley Rosen Library Fund of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County made the 2021 Summer Adventure Program a possibility. Teens in grades 6-12 can register at the library to earn a free book and after completing the summer reading calendar can earn another free book or enter a raffle for gift cards and prizes. Adult programs can be found on the library’s website and participation can earn tickets for a prize drawing in August.

Tompkins County Public Library invites public to presentations by finalists for library director position

Tompkins County Public Library’s Director Search Committee has announced Adam Traub and Matthew Bollerman as the final candidates in a five-month search for a successor to retiring director Annette Birdsall. The public is invited to get to know Traub and Bollerman during public Zoom webinar presentations on May 3 and May 6 that will include audience Q&A. “These are two very strong candidates for a position of great importance in our community,” says Search Committee Chair Blixy Taetzsch, who also serves as Secretary of the Library’s Board of Trustees. “We encourage the public to attend these webinars to hear from the candidates directly and to ask questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit feedback after each presentation.”

13th Annual Spring Writes Literary Festival begins May 5

ITHACA, NY t’s time once again for the Community Arts Partnership’s annual “Spring Writes Literary Festival”!   Now in its 13th year, the Festival includes over 40 free virtual events featuring over 100 local and regional writers. There are 25 literary themed panels, readings and performances scheduled from May 5-16, three additional community events in late May and June, and 13 writing workshops taking place from late May through November. The Festival’s line-up was juried from an open call for proposals, and curated by this year’s Artistic Director Jennifer Tennant. There is something for everyone. Plenty of poetry, prose, and creative non-fiction readings, interesting and informative panel discussions on book craft, an open mic for poetry and prose sponsored by the Tompkins County Public Library, multiple play readings by area playwrights, a fun session of Literary Jeopardy, a night of curated storytelling, screenings of community generated fil
