Senior journalist Sayed Lutful Haque dies
Senior journalist Sayed Lutful Haque, a permanent member of the National Press Club, died at a hospital in the capital on Wednesday morning. He was 72.
Sayed Haque, who was also a renowned painter and illustrator, breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 5:30 am while undergoing treatment.
Lutful left behind his two sons and a host of well wishers to mourn his death.
Earlier on January 8, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and shortness of breath.
National Press Club President Farida Yasmin and Secretary General Ilias Khan expressed profound sock at the demise of Lutful Haque.

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today opened the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign with a nurse and four other government officials being first recipients of the shots as frontline workers.
Kurmitola General Hospital (KGH) nurse Runu Veronica Costa became the first to receive the shot, virtually witnessed by the premier from her Ganabhaban official residence as Covid-19 inoculate consignments started reaching Bangladesh.
“You are not frightened, are you?” Sheikh Hasina said as a medical official prepared to inject her the inoculate at the state-run health facility which was one of the first designated COVID hospitals in the country.

The first consignment of purchased Covid-19 vaccine arrived in the country from India on Monday as the countrywide vaccination programme is set to be inaugurated tomorrow.
A special Air India flight carrying 5 million doses of the jab, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11am.
Bangladesh has now seven million doses of the Covishield vaccine, including 2 million received from the neighbouring country as a gift, in stock.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will flag off the much-awaited vaccination programme tomorrow.
She will open the drive through videoconferencing from her official residence Ganobhaban at 3:30pm, said sources at the Health Ministry.

In Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the immunisation programme via video call on Wednesday afternoon through the inoculation of a nurse and 24 others at the Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka.
The vaccination registration process through mobile app and web application Surokkha will also be launched in the ceremony. All who are willing to be inoculated have to register for their doses of the vaccine.

The countrywide Covid-19 vaccine inoculation will start from February 7, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said.
He made the announcement while visiting Kurmitola General Hospital to see the preparations for the vaccination inaugural ceremony there.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the vaccination campaign, joining the ceremony virtually at around 3:30pm tomorrow.
The health minister also visited the vaccination centers at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
Speaking to journalists, the minister alleged some people were spreading rumours about the vaccine campaign.
