DENVER â One of the most exciting events for the world of baseball is coming to Denver this week and it s promising to be a blast.
If youâre like me though, youâre probably wondering what there is to do if itâs your first time going to an All-Star Game, or perhaps youâre really not a fan of the sport but just want to check out all the fun happening downtown anyway.
The north end of Denver International Airport’s terminal is about to become unrecognizable when Hensel Phelps begins building new security checkpoints as part of the Great Hall phase two improvements.
Plans call for three escalators to move people from the new sixth-floor security station directly to the train platform. Improvement should be functioning by the beginning of 2024, said outgoing airport CEO Kim Day, who is retiring July 16 after 13 years at the helm.
Day joined City of Denver officials, TSA representatives and Hensel Phelps Wednesday to announce the start of construction.
“Phase one is on schedule to be completed by the end of 2021, at almost $25 million under budget,” Day said. “Both phase one and two are within the original $770 million budget.”
“As with any situation, if you are not vaccinated the [Delta] variant and COVID in general presents an extreme risk to you,” Hancock said. “And it’s important that, as you come to engage with crowds, that you protect yourself and those around you.”
In addition to the vaccination rate, Denver’s Department of Public Health and Environment reports the city’s positivity rate is below 2%, with case counts and hospitalizations remaining low. DDPHE Executive Director Bob McDonald said he does not expect an outbreak in Denver following the All Star game.
“For a number of weeks now things have been opening in indoor and outdoor settings and we haven’t seen an uptick in cases, largely due to the vaccination rate. I’m not concerned about MLB week,” he said.
