Work to begin Monday at Delaware Water Gap Bridge s toll plaza

Delaware River I-80 toll plaza construction to begin, will last six months

New Jersey Herald DELAWARE WATER GAP, Pa.   A project to fix the pavement and approaches to the I-80 toll plaza for the Delaware River bridge is scheduled to begin Monday and last six months. The work will be done by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, which owns the bridge and plaza, and will fund the work through tolls collected.  The toll bridge is expected to remain open to two travel lanes in each direction for the duration of the project, but there will be work on the approaches to, and exits from, the plaza. According to the commission, the project s concentration will be a full-depth replacement of spalling concrete slabs in the vicinity of the five-lane westbound barrier toll plaza on the bridge’s Pennsylvania side. The work is expected to begin Monday and continue through the summer months.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced it will begin the every-other-year study of its tolled spans in May, looking for any structural or safety issues. Most of the work will be out of sight, but the commission cautioned that lane restrictions may sometimes be needed.
