A mainland spokesperson Wednesday cautioned relevant political parties and personnel in Taiwan against the populist trap of irrational and confrontational thinking.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to the Kuomintang chairman Chiang Chi-chen s statement on cross-Strait relations.
Taiwan independence forces have been deliberately producing opposition and confrontation across the Taiwan Strait, undermining peace and stability across the Strait, she said.
Reiterating firm opposition to Taiwan independence, Zhu urged relevant political parties and personnel in Taiwan to distinguish between right and wrong. They should uphold constructive policies toward the mainland and contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, not the contrary, Zhu said.

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) Taiwan s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority has deliberately obstructed youth exchanges with the mainland and damaged their right to more development opportunities, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said Thursday.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to claims that the mainland-held events, including cross-Strait live broadcast contests and training of young anchorpersons from Taiwan, were the mainland s campaign to woo people from the island.
Fearing that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are getting closer to each other and that Taiwan people will know the true conditions on the mainland, the DPP authority has prioritized its own selfish interests and nature of seeking Taiwan independence and made malicious efforts to impede exchanges across the Strait, Zhu said.
