42 citizensâ statement on EC is drafted by BNP: Hasan

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2020 (BSS) â Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said it is BNP that drafted the statement of 42 persons over the Election Commission (EC).
âWe saw yesterday that 42 personalities of the country gave a statement about the Election Commission. I would like to say them with utmost respect that all those persons are known as pro-BNP. Some of them are advisors to the BNP chairperson,â he said.
The minister made the comments while addressing a discussion meeting at an auditorium of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) in the capital.
Progotishil National Awami Party-Progotishil NAP (Bhashani) organized the meeting marking the 140th birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.
86 percent people with disabilities directly involved in agriculture: Study

A total of 86 percent people with physical and leprosy disabilities in Bangladesh are directly involved in agriculture while income of 88 percent of farmers with disabilities has been reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The information was revealed in the ‘Research Findings Dissemination and Journalist Award Giving Ceremony’ at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Complex auditorium in the city on Saturday organized by The Leprosy Mission International-Bangladesh and supported by Bangladesh Krishak League, ICCO-Cooperation and NOREC.
Two studies titled ‘The Role of People with Disabilities in Agriculture’ and ‘COVID-19 Impacts on the Lives & Livelihoods of People with Disabilities’ were conducted in between September and December 2020.

Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that many
people had expressed fears about Corona, saying that there would be
hundreds of dead bodies on the roads in the country by Corona,
millions of people would be starving, but their fears have been proved
wrong.
Bangladesh has set an example in the world in dealing with Corona and
moved forward even in the midst of the Corona pandemic. Although the
whole world stopped by Corona, Bangladesh did not stop its activities,
he added.”

Research Findings
A total of 210 physically challenged people in 32 upazilas under 16 districts of Bangladesh attended face to face interviews as key respondents in the study.
Of them 42 percent were found as the main wage-earning members of the family.
According to the study findings, 62% of persons with disabilities are involved in poultry farming, 52% in livestock rearing, 36% in vegetables farming while 37% in cultivation.
The study conducted by TLMI-B also reveals that only 12.86% farmers with disabilities are government-recognised farmers while the rest of 87.14% farmers with disabilities are deprived of the government services in agriculture sector.
Besides, only 4% of the farmers with disabilities are associated with the agriculture-based committees at union, upazila and district levels and the remaining 98% are not associated with any committee.
Hasan condoles death of Quaderâs brother-in-law Shahabuddin

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS)-Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death Md Shahabuddin, brother-in-law of Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader.
In a condolence message, the minister said Shahabuddin will ever be remembered for his works and as a pious person as well.
Hasan, also AL joint general secretary, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Shahabuddin, who was a former director of the US-based private organization Winrock, died at a hospital in the city while undergoing treatment.
