The Coimbatore Division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has seen a sharp decrease in revenue for Coimbatore district amid the COVID-19 restrictions, a comparison of parameters revealed.
TNSTC sources said the parameters for April 22, 2021, was compared with April 22, 2019, for Coimbatore district as the buses were not operated on this date in 2020 due to the nationwide lockdown. As per the comparison, the single-day revenue in 2019 was ₹ 1.87 crore, which came down to only ₹ 69.24 lakh in 2021. The per-kilometre revenue was ₹ 34.84 on April 22, 2019, but it fell to ₹ 20.60 on April 22, 2021. The total kilometres operated by the town and mofussil buses also saw a decrease from 5.38 lakh km on April 22, 2019 to 3.36 lakh km on April 22, 2021.

Police tighten restrictions on people’s movement and gatherings, registration must to enter State
The police tightened the restrictions on people’s movement and gatherings in Palakkad on Saturday in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases. The police checked motorists at various points and slapped fines on those who were found to have violated the COVID-19 protocol.
A total of 1,512 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Palakkad on Saturday.
Even though there was no lockdown, the police did not permit people to move around freely and for casual and flimsy reasons. Only those who came out for solid reasons were allowed to proceed. Many were sent back home by the police.

Relatives of murdered Sudalai Maadasamy Temple priest Chidambaram of Seevalaperi near here accepted the body after the district administration agreed to recommend to the State Government compensation and government job to the family of the deceased. Moreover, it has been decided to survey the land belonging to Sudalai Maadasamy Temple to protect it from being encroached upon and to set-up a police outpost near the shrine to prevent any unlawful incident in future. Tension prevailed in Seevalaperi and its surroundings after Chidambaram, who belongs to the Yadhava community, was murdered last Sunday by an armed gang belonging to a different community following long-standing disputes over setting up shops around the temple during festivals and enjoying the revenue.

Coimbatore Corporation on Friday started vaccinating employees of the State-owned Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac).
As of Friday afternoon, the Corporation had vaccinated 125 of the 375 employees at the special camp organised at the Tasmac warehouse in Peelamedu. This camp was the latest in the series of exclusive camps that the civic body had organised for employees of the various State Public Sector Undertakings and departments, said sources. The Corporation had so far vaccinated Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Public Works Department, Coimbatore Collectorate and a few other employees’ organisations.
