Relatives of those in districts travel to Chennai to procure Remdesivir or end up buying on the black market Like last year, non-availability of drugs used in the treatment of COVID-19, hoarding and illegal sale of drugs have surfaced in many parts of Tamil Nadu. Relatives of patients are travelling far and wide to Chennai to get Remdesivir, while a number of them are paying exorbitant rates to get the drugs.

Shilpa Satish to handle grievance redressal system
On its first day in office on Friday, the DMK government named senior IAS officer V. Irai Anbu as its Chief Secretary, replacing incumbent Rajeev Ranjan. It also named four IAS officers T. Udhayachandran, P. Umanath, M.S. Shanmugam and Anu George as Secretaries I, II, III and IV respectively to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The State government also appointed IAS officer Shilpa Prabhakar Satish to head the grievance redressal system that will look into petitions received during the election tour undertaken by Mr. Stalin.

Govt. tells HC it is awaiting supplies to begin inoculating those above 18 years
The State government on Thursday told the Madras High Court that the Centre had allotted 10.3 lakh COVID-19 vaccines to Tamil Nadu for the universal adult inoculation drive and instructed it to purchase the vaccines only from two private vendors. The vendors, in turn, insisted on payment of 100% advance amount.
The government paid the entire money on Tuesday and is awaiting the supplies to commence vaccination for those above 18 years of age.

The Madras High Court on Thursday ordered that the Centre “should take immediate steps” to ensure adequate supply of oxygen to Tamil Nadu so that the reserves in the State do not run out by Saturday, as apprehended by Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan and Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation Managing Director P. Umanath. “It is critical, and requires the attention of the highest offices so that lives are not lost for want of oxygen,” the court observed.
