Despite COVID-19 infections rising sharply and a large number of consequential deaths in different districts, the consolidated information disseminated by the Odisha government has put the toll lower.
Since April 1, the State government has reported 32 deaths caused by COVID-19 infections from across 30 districts. However, information trickling in from districts on fatalities is at variance. In Nuapada alone, for instance, as many as 19 persons have died in the district COVID hospital since April 6.

The unfortunate incident happened in the Bhadrak district headquarter government hospital on Monday (March 15). According to the reports, a stray dog was spotted carrying the body of a newborn baby in its mouth and running inside the campus of the government hospital. People around the campus found this and chased after the dog, the dog dropped the body there and fled from the spot.

Odisha: A 15-year-old girl allegedly has been chained to a cot at her home in a remote village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district while her parents, both daily wage laborers, were away for work.
The parents have said that she has mental health issues. They have also said that she earlier studied at a residential school and had returned home after the lockdown.
She has been chained to a cot outside their two-room kutcha house, her legs tied together. The matter came to light after some social workers met the girl during a visit to the village.
