ISLAMABAD: The 10th meeting of Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is scheduled to be held on July 16, Chairman CPEC Authority Lt. Gen. (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa said Saturday.
While announcing the date for the much-awaited meeting, he said the meeting would be held via video link and co-chaired by Planning Minister Asad Umar and Vice Chairman National Development and Reforms Commission (NDRC) Ning Jizhe.
“Normally the JCC meeting is held once in a year. The 9th meeting was held in 2019 but the 10th meeting could not be scheduled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The JCC is the highest decision-making forum on CPEC which would review progress and future projects as well, Bajwa said.

ISLAMABAD: The much-awaited meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will be held on Friday, July 16, with the aim of further expanding the scope of cooperation between the two countries and expediting its projects.
The JCC meeting, which is being held after a gap of over one-and-a-half years, will be attended by ministers and officials of Pakistan and China through video link.

Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar may be removed from the post of the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) as a tussle among its members has compelled Prime Minister Imran Khan to step in and put the house in order.
Sources told The Express Tribune that bickering among Umar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tabish Gauhar, Energy Minister Hammad Azhar and Maritime Minister Ali Zaidi started over the body’s intervention in the affairs of the energy ministry.

Since the novel coronavirus was first detected in late 2019, we have been traversing in unchartered territory. Many had hoped the virus would have faded away or become a ‘normal’ part of our lives by now, but it continues to rage across nations with more dangerous mutations and present new challenges such as unequitable vaccine supply. This week, as the world marked four million known deaths from Covid-19, along with the administering of over 3.3 billion vaccine doses, Prime Minister Imran Khan warned of a fourth wave in the country, and termed the Delta variant of the virus, first identified in India, “the biggest concern”. Pakistan was hit by its third wave around March this year, and since peaking in late April, cases had dropped significantly by last month. However, this week saw a rise in active cases last seen in April, setting alarm bells ringing on the possibility of another virus onslaught.
