Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has praised the New South Wales government for its response to COVID-19 – encouraging Australians to take a trip to regional areas.
Responding to suggestions New South Wales regional towns were left out of the federal government’s discounted airfare package, Mr McCormack said the regions were doing remarkably well.
“Gladys Berejiklian and John Barilaro have done a great job keeping the borders open and keeping New South Wales people travelling around, going to businesses,” he said.
“Regional New South Wales is going pretty well at the moment."
He pointed out the Regional Australia Institute had identified 54,000 jobs in regional Australia.
“We want people to visit those regional locations, whether in a car or taking one of the half-priced airline tickets and we want them even potentially stay,” he said.
“Take a job, fall in love.”
