PAYETTE â The Payette Public Pool remains a very emotional subject for many Payette residents, especially now as the pool remains closed following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Jan. 19 Payette City Council meeting, Councilor Kathy Patrick raised her concerns about the ongoing closure after talking to officials at Southwest District Health.
âI want to see something done, Iâm tired of excuses, Iâm tired of half-truths,â Patrick said to Williams. âWhat do we need to do to get you folks to hire a pool manager, so we can get this done? And why were we not told the truth? Several times, you stated Southwest Health District said we couldnât open and thatâs simply not true.â

ALBANY â Officials with the Southwest Health District are cautioning that New Yearâs Eveâs emphasis on celebrating and good cheer can increase the current spike in overdoses.
âOverdoses are drastically increasing in Dougherty County,â Phyllis Rolle, Public Health Opioid Use Prevention Analyst with the Southwest Health District, said in a news release. âThe organization is tracking the upward trend based on data provided by the local Emergency Medical Service (EMS).
âA bright spot is that fatal overdoses can be prevented if you seek medical treatment in a timely manner.â
Often, individuals fail to seek medical treatment or call 911 out of fear of facing criminal prosecution. The Georgia Medical Amnesty Law provides limited immunity to individual seeking medical attention for overdoses.
