WHITLEY COUNTY - After expanding the countyâs sanitation department to include the rental of dumpsters, Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White, Jr. said there has been an âunreal demand.â On Wednesday, the fiscal court took action that would help curb that demand, by accepting a bid that will bring 25 new 3-yard dumpsters to the the department.
Judge White said the county currently has a little more than 50 dumpsters available for rent and noted that the waiting list was approximately three months long.
âA lot of times people will call and use them for a week or two, just clean out a house or something like that,â said White. âThe thing that itâs really helping with is that itâs helping clean up our county.â

Pulaski County Detention Center Sgt. Rodney Dick and Nursing Director Casey Coffey updated Fiscal Court Tuesday on jail operations since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly hard on county jails across Kentucky, the Pulaski County Detention Center accomplished something nearly unheard of.
During Tuesday s meeting of Pulaski County Fiscal Court, PCDC Sergeant Rodney Dick presented county officials with a $44,255 check representing excess fees for 2020.
With the pandemic keeping inmates from being transferred, most local jails saw a dramatic drop in inmate population particularly state inmates that produce lodging revenues.
Dick said that Jailer Anthony McCollum and his command staff restructured as a result. We re doing more with less, he said.

Hill County Commissioners Discuss Special Agenda Items The Hill County Commissioners Court met in a special session Tuesday, February 2, to consider several special agenda items. The court approved an agreement with Southern Health Partners to provide inmate medical services in the county jail. The company has been providing inmate medical services in Hill County since 2009. A part-time maintenance position was also approved by the court. Due to the pandemic, the usual assistance from inmate trustees has not been possible, and the new employee is expected to help the county keep up with maintenance jobs. A variance requested by a landowner in the 100 block of Farm Road 2114 in Aquilla was approved by the court. County Judge Justin Lewis said that a small tract of land cut off from the main tract by the roadway is being transferred to another landowner.
