The pro-apoptotic actions of 2-methoxyestradiol against ovarian cancer involve catalytic activation of PKCδ signaling which reported that the authors have previously shown that a flaxseed-supplemented diet decreases both the incidence and severity of ovarian cancer in laying hens, also induces CYP1A1 expression in liver.
Recently, they have shown that as a biologically derived active component of flax diet, 2MeOE2 induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells which is partially dependent on p38 MAPK.

Several years ago, Baylor business professor Stacie Petter and then-doctoral candidate Laurie Giddens (MSIS ’02, PhD ’17) bonded in a Baylor classroom over their shared passion to fight human trafficking. They knew their discipline, information systems, could be a tool in that fight, but weren’t sure exactly how to blend their work with their desire to serve.
“I’ve always had a place in my heart for people who tend to be lost or forgotten in society,” Petter says. “Unfortunately, people who are victims of human trafficking often end up being disregarded because of their experiences. Laurie and I discovered our shared interest and often thought we’d like to work together in some way to conduct research on human trafficking.”
Two Indian American professors have been named by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine among the 2020-2021 Jefferson Science Fellows.
Supriyo Bandyopadhyay, Commonwealth Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, directs the quantum device laboratory in the department of electrical and computer engineering, while Surajit Sen is a professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo since 2006.
The 2020-2021 class of Jefferson Science Fellows is the 16th class of Fellows selected since the program was established in 2003 as an initiative of the Office of the Science and Technology Adviser to the U.S. Secretary of State.
Bandyopadhyay previously was a visiting assistant professor at Purdue, assistant and associate professor at the University of Notre Dame, and professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
