Amid increased lockdowns and curfews, delivery fleet of companies including Zomato and Swiggy and restaurants which have been allowed to deliver on their own are facing harassment and even arrests by the police on charges which are incorrect, industry executives said. “Despite following all Covid protocols, our delivery personnel are being harassed and even arrested by Delhi Police. Request you to send out urgent necessary instructions to stop this right away. This is the least you can do for our beleaguered sector,” the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), which represents over five lakh restaurants in India, tweeted on Friday.

Nagpur: Protests by traders against the 25-day Covid-induced restrictions continued on Thursday, especially in Sitabuldi, Dharampeth, Jaripatka, Ganjakhet and Central Avenue. Sitabuldi Merchants’ Association (SMA), along with other traders’ associations including the 150-member parent body Nag Vidarbha Chambers of Commerce (NVCC), staged ‘thali bajao, sarkar jagao’ agitation in the city to protest against the state government’s “oppressive steps” to check the spread of coronavirus. They exhorted the government to revoke the restrictions without delay. “As chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had on Wednesday assured to announce the state’s decision on whether or not non-essential shops will be allowed to open on April 9, we will wait till Friday morning,” the agitated traders said.
