US experts studied the impact of shifting back the school day on student sleep
They involved around 28,000 students and their parents in their experiment
Students aged 14–18 benefited the most from a delayed start to the school day
Specifically, they gained an extra 3.8 hours of extra sleep per week on average
Getting enough sleep is vital for health, social development and education
However, body clock changes in puberty make it hard to fall asleep early at night
Coupled with early starts, this can leave students systemically sleep deprived
