KUALA LUMPUR: The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Ziarah Prihatin programme was not only held to acknowledge the services of veteran artistes and singers but it also opened up opportunities for them to make a comeback in the industry.
Finas chairman Zakaria Abdul Hamid (pix, left) said the programme was described as killing two birds with a stone as the programme could also keep entertainment industry enthusiasts posted on what these artistes are doing after being away from scene for a long time.
“Aside from showing appreciation to the artistes and putting them in the limelight with the help of the media, some singers and actors also received job offers.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 The creation of social media content which bypassed the process of censorship and government certification is one reason for the emergence of irresponsible commercials such as Raya-themed advertisements promoting gambling, according to Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri.
The chief executive officer of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) said this was unlike advertisements for television and cinemas, which had to go through a screening process by the Film Censorship Board to obtain a certification from Finas before they could be aired.

PUTRAJAYA, April 18 The government has always taken the stand of defending media freedom including social media nonetheless it should not be abused, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
Referring to the advertisement promoting gambling with an Aidilfitri theme, Saifuddin said even though the government practises media freedom, it is also responsible for taking the appropriate action if there are matters which cross the legal boundary.

PUTRAJAYA, April 18 Police are intensifying their efforts to track down the main syndicate which hires the production house that produced two Hari Raya Aidilfitri-themed advertisements promoting online gambling.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (intelligence/operations) Datuk Dev Kumar said the initial investigation found that the two videos came from the same production house.
