The eyes of the entire nation were on the Finance Minister as she delivered the Budget 2021, a budget that had a lot riding on it considering all that happened to the countryâs economy in the last one year. While the budget speech was economic in its length compared to last year, itâs content was potent in terms of what it delivered.
The retail industry was crippled during the lockdown. As the economy opens up, it is now slowly getting back on its knees. The Budget has several initiatives which touch all segments of the society â women, farmers, entrepreneurs, rural and urban consumers to help sustain the momentum of recovery and growth.

Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Tuesday shed light on India s giant leaps in the education sector. Speaking on
India TV s special show
Budget Sammelan 2021, he said that the ministry undertook the herculean task of getting onboard as many as 25-30 crore students online for digital learning amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown. This is probably the first such example in the world where we got onboard 25-30 crore students for online digital learning, especially when we had no immediate readiness. At a time when countries moved a year back, India stood by its 33 crore students, conducted exams and declared results in time. Key JEE, NEET exams and final year exams too were conducted in time. We didn t let students one year go waste, Pokhriyal told India TV.Â
Hon’ble Speaker,
I present the Budget for the year 2021-2022.
1. Honourable Speaker, the preparation of this Budget was undertaken in circumstances like never before. We knew of calamities that have affected a country or a region within a country, but what we have endured with COVID-19 through 2020 is sui generis.
2. When I presented the Budget 2020-21, we could not have imagined that the global economy, already in throes of a slowdown, would be pushed into an unprecedented contraction.
3. We could not have also imagined then that our people as those in other countries would have to endure the loss of near and dear ones and suffer hardships brought about due to a health crisis.
