Urtubey, an educator for 11 years, teaches at Kermit R. Booker, Sr. Innovative Elementary School in Las Vegas, where she serves as a co-teacher in pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade special education settings and as an instructional strategist developing supports to meet students differing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. Known as Ms. Earth for her efforts to beautify schools and unify the community through murals and gardens, Urtubey has helped raise funds for garden programs at two Las Vegas schools. School Board approves National Board teaching supplement

The School Board unanimously approved on April 12 to implement a $5,000 annual supplement for teachers who become certified with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Linda Foster, human resources supervisor, said a teacher who is certified with the National Board has inquired about teaching in the Franklin County School System. However, she said the most the system would pay is $46,207, including a 2.5 percent salary increase the board is considering. Foster said the School System could be losing out to other systems that pay bonuses for national certification. The National Board is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded in 1987 that develops and maintains advanced standards for educators and offers a national, voluntary assessment â National Board Certification, based on NBPTS standards.

I couldn’t do it without my family, who’s been super supportive this past year,” Klesel said. “Helping out when I’ve been losing my mind. The administration has been truly supportive and even National Board Certified teachers who I’ve met throughout this year (have) been a lifeline.” She is right.
