EU mulls ending extradition treaties with China over overhaul of Hong Kong electoral system ANI | Updated: Apr 16, 2021 16:19 IST Brussels [Belgium], April 16 (ANI): The European Union is preparing new measures to punish Beijing for overhauling Hong Kong s electoral system that will further clamp down on opposition voices in the region. South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that sources say the measures could include a suspension of member state extradition treaties with China, although they are yet finalised by the officials who are busy laying the groundwork for Monday s meeting of all 27 EU foreign ministers. The Foreign Affairs Council, which meets each month, will announce a range of light touch measures that have already been agreed. These are fuzzy in nature and include more engagement with civil society and promotion of freedom of expression.
