Muscat: More than 4,600 students from Indian schools obtained transfer certificates between April 2020 and January 15, 2021, with the highest number of cases being reported from Indian School Muscat, where 878 students opted for transfer certificates.
Besides Indian School Muscat, a big drop in student numbers was reported from Indian School Wadi Kabir (692) followed by Indian School Sohar (511) and Indian School Muladha (329).
Indian School Ghubra, Indian School Darsait and Indian School Seeb all reported more than 250 students leaving their institutions during this term.
According to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of total expat workers fell from 1,712,798 at the end of December 2019 to 1,443,128 at the end of December 2020, reflecting a drop of 269,670.
Schools grappling with falling revenues

With many schools in the Sultanate working as a not-for-profit venture, exit of some students has affected their earnings.
Muscat: Students not returning to the classrooms, be it either face-to-face or virtual, are costing millions to school management committees. Take the example of Indian Schools in Oman where more than 7,000 students have left or are planning to leave in 2020-2021.
While more than 4,600 Indian students have opted for transfer certificates in the middle of the term, around 2,000-2,500 additional students are expected to leave the schools or apply for transfers after the completion of the current term, ending in March 2021.
Oman’s electricity generation fell by 2.6% until end of November 2020

Muscat: Oman’s total electricity production until the end of November 2020 fell by 2.6 per cent to reach 35,540.9GW per hour compared to the same month in 2019, when the total production was 36,506.5GW per hour.
Meanwhile, water production until the end of October 2020 increased by 6.5 per cent to reach 396.83 million cubic metres compared to 372.57 million cubic metres in the same period in 2019, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The total electricity production in the governorates of Al Batinah and A’Dhahirah reached 22,251.1GW per hour until the end of November 2020, recording an average increase of 1.1 per cent over the same period in 2019, when the production was 21,998.2 GW per hour. Third phase of field verification of addresses begins in Dhofar

Muscat: A Dhofar Municipality team has begun the third phase of field verification of addresses for establishments in the in the wilayats of Thumrait, Rakhyut and Dhalkot in Dhofar Governorate.
A statement issued online by the Municipality said: Dhofar Municipality continues field verification work and the verification team completed the second phase of verification in the wilayats of Taqah, Mirbat and Sadah before starting the third phase, which includes the wilayats of Thumrait, Rakhyut and Dhalkot. These works are part of the project to unify the address system for the Sultanate, which was prepared and supervised by the National Centre for Statistics and Information. Dhofar Municipality invites owners of establishments in the wilayas to cooperate and facilitate the tasks of the team, the statement added.
