Natural gas production, imports cross 40bn cubic metres

Muscat: The total local production and imports of natural gas have reached more than 40 billion cubic metres by the end of November 2020, The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), said.
A statement issued online by NCSI pointed out that 42.215 billion cubic metres is the total local production and imports of natural gas by the end of November 2020, compared to 42.194 billion cubic metres by the end of November 2019.

Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Finance has approved the annual periodic bonus for the year 2021 for government employees.
The ex-gratia payment will be 100 per cent for those whose monthly salary is less than Omani Rials 900, and 50 per cent for those whose salary is Omani Rials 900 or higher. The bonus or the ex-gratia payment is normally calculated on the current basic pay. This decision is applicable to employees of ministries, civil, military and security units, and public authorities.
The announcement was welcomed by those employed in the government sectors.
More than 270,000 expatriate workers left Oman this year

DUBAI, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Oman s expatriate worker
population fell by more than 270,000, or nearly 16%, from the
end of 2019 to November 2020, data from the National Centre for
Statistics and Information showed.
Oman had 1.44 million non-Omani workers as of November,
according to the data, down from 1.71 million expatriate workers
at the end of last year.
Many foreign workers have left Gulf countries this year as
their hydrocarbon-dependent economies were simultaneously hit by
the coronavirus pandemic and the drop in oil demand and prices
that came with it.
