This Week in Iowa: Another Winter Storm & Brutal Cold
47 days til spring. We re going to have to keep remembering that, especially later this week, as another winter storm and the coldest weather of the winter are on their way.
The weekend s snowfall has officially put Cedar Rapids at the average for a normal winter, at 32.5 inches. It seems so much worse because all of it has fallen in 34 days, beginning December 29.

Another winter storm is due to impact Iowa on Thursday. Meteorologist Rebecca Kopelman at CBS 2 says it will bring the chance of a wintery mix and snow. Sounds familiar, huh. There s no word, yet, on how much precipitation we ll see.
WINTER STORM WARNING for Eastern Iowa info updated at 5:45 AM 1/30
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING for portions of Eastern Iowa from
9 AM SATURDAY TO 9 AM SUNDAY.
The NWS says to expect total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch in the warning areas.
Expect areas of freezing drizzle or freezing rain to develop Saturday morning over central to northern Iowa. The freezing precipitation is likely to persist and even increase in intensity during the afternoon hours. There will be a period of a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow in the late afternoon into early evening hours before switching over to all snow.
January 2021 – One of the Snowiest on Record
Depending on how much snow we get on the final days of the month, January 2021 has a chance to become the snowiest on record for Waterloo.
As of Friday, 1/29, the Waterloo-area has already seen 17.2” of snow this month, which would place it tied for the 7

On average, Waterloo gets around 35 of snow per calendar year, according to the weather.gov. Seasonally, Waterloo averages 25.5 snow for the winter months of December, January, and February.
So far, Waterloo has accumulated 27.4 in December and January. (as of 1/29)
The snowiest
season for Waterloo was the winter of 2018-2019 when 60 of snow fell.

Iowa: Another Winter Storm Looks Likely This Weekend
Ready or not, here we go. Again. It appears another major winter storm is headed our way this weekend.
The winter of 2020-21 was a breeze for the first few days after it officially started on December 21. Remember, we didn t have a white Christmas? Then came December 29, when KCRG reports that Cedar Rapids received about 9 inches of the white stuff. January 14, almost 2 more inches. As you know all too well, Monday and Tuesday brought another biggie, with different parts of Cedar Rapids receiving between 6 and 8 inches, according to CBS 2.
