Council moves housing inspectors to health dept | News, Sports, Jobs

mgreier@salemnews.net City council approved more legislation Tuesday related to moving the housing inspection division out of city hall and into the city Health Department. The approval just changed some wording to show two separate positions under Environmental Health, one for Director of Environmental Health/Sanitarian and one for Director of Housing/Housing Inspector. Council had already approved creating a full-time position for housing, along with moving a part-time housing inspector position so both are under the health department’s jurisdiction. The city currently has one part-time housing inspector. Another part-time inspector retired last year. Plans call for the hiring of a full-time Director of Housing/Housing Inspector so there will be one full-time inspector and one part-time inspector.
