An opposition MP is seeking a censure debate against the government over its alleged failure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pheu Thai MP for Nan, Cholnan Srikaew, said yesterday he will ask opposition parties to table a no-confidence motion against the government when the new parliamentary session begins on May 22. This is the right time to censure the government for failing to contain the pandemic, Mr Cholnan said.
The country has been hit by several waves of Covid-19, which have dealt severe blows to the economy. This shows the government does not measure up to the job, he said.

BURI RAM: The provincial communicable disease committee has issued an order to place two villages in Khu Muang district in lockdown 14 days from May 2 after eight people contracted Covid-19, governor Tatchakorn Hatthathayakul said after an urgent meeting of the committee on Sunday.
The two villages are Ban Sao-e, Moo 2, and Ban Nong Phai, Moo 12, in tambon Hin Lek Fai where parties were held between April 16-18 and attended by people from outside the villages, leading to eight people, both adults and children, being infected.

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A district chief filed a police complaint on Monday accusing a Ugandan man and his Thai wife, both infected with Covid-19, of concealing details of their movements from health officials.
The complaint was filed with Soeng Sang police by local kamnan Sanit Srithawee, on behalf of the director of Soeng Sang Hospital.
Mr Sanit said that on April 29 the Ugandan, 32, and his 22-year-old wife, from tambon Non Sombun, went to Soeng Sang Hospital on arrival from Bangkok.

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The communicable disease committee of this province has stopped short of imposing a night curfew, but has asked people to cooperate by staying home from 11pm-4am.
Dr Narinratch Pitchakamin, chief of the provincial health office, announced the decision after a meeting of the provincial communicable disease committee, chaired by deputy governor Charin Thongsuk, on Monday morning.
This was intended to reduce people s travel and help curb the spread of Covid-19.
Dr Narinratch said 23 new infections had been detected in the province - 15 in Muang, three in Non Sung, two in Pak Chong and one each in Non Thai, Ban Luam and Pak Thong Chai districts.
