In the meeting chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, a detailed presentation was done on the progress of the countrywide vaccination drive, with focus on states or UTs that are lagging behind in providing coverage to the vulnerable population groups. The scope to substantially speed up vaccination in this category was stressed, an official statement said.

Taking a note of the secondary and opportunistic fungal infections which are getting amplified due to the present surge in COVID cases and Mucormycosis becoming a cause of concern, Union Health Secretary in his letter to Chief Secretaries and Administrators of all States and UTs listed certain activities and urged them to undertake those practices to ensure that there are robust infection prevention and control practices in COVID hospitals and other h

Rajesh Tope   Mr. Tope made the statement at a meeting held by Mr. Modi, during which the latter interacted with 17 district Collectors of Maharashtra. Stating that the spectre of mucormycosis was a matter of prime concern for the State, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the State government needed more supply of medicines used to treat the ‘black fungus.’ Mucormycosis has so far claimed 90 lives in the State. Mr. Tope made this demand during the virtual meeting held by the Prime Minister wherein he interacted with Chief Ministers of severely hit COVID-19 States. More than 50 district collectors from across the country, including 17 from Maharashtra, also participated.
