A blame game has erupted between the Centre and state government over supply of ‘faulty’ ventilators to Punjab under the PM Cares Fund.
The state had claimed that around 90 per cent ventilators sent by the Centre were faulty and non-functional. Countering the charge, the Union Government said the state’s infrastructure to run the equipment was faulty, not the ventilators.
In a statement, the Union Health Ministry said among ventilators installed at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital (GGSMCH), Faridkot, 88 ventilators were supplied by Bharat Electronics Limited and five by AgVa Healthcare.

New Delhi, May 13 : Lack of proper use and timely maintenance of Make in India ventilators that help you breathe or breathe for you is resulting in glitches in the machine amid the Covid crisis, creating another challenging situation for the Centre.
Despite instructions given in the user manual, detailed guidelines issued to ventilator users regarding infrastructure requirements, proper usage and maintenance of the CV200 ventilators, many hospitals or medical colleges are not following these , said sources.

NEW DELHI: Only about 2 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses may be available for the 18-44-year age group across India this month, an affidavit filed by the Centre in the Supreme Court revealed.
The Centre appealed to states on Tuesday to prioritise vaccinating those due for second dose of COVID-19 vaccine and reserve at least 70 per cent of the shots supplied from the central pool for the purpose. States have also been urged to minimise wastage of vaccine doses, the health ministry said in a statement. All wastage more than the national average hereafter is to be adjusted from the subsequent allocations to that state or union territory. The urgent need to address a large number of beneficiaries waiting for second dose of vaccine was stressed in a meeting held by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and Dr R S Sharma, the Chairman of Empowered Group on Technology and Data Management to Combat COVID-19, with state officials to review the status of COVID-19 vaccination on Tuesday.
