Date Time Wollongong goes international with Bike City Label recognition Recognition of Wollongong as a global city has reached new heights today as Wollongong Council joins the ranks of cities such as Vancouver, Paris, Copenhagen, Glasgow and Bergen following the announcement that we’ve been awarded the UCI Bike City Label. It’s a significant coup for Wollongong as it’s the only time an Australian city or region has been awarded the prestigious label. The UCI Bike City Label recognises Wollongong’s long-term commitment to delivering an improved cycling experience for everyone. With the 2022 UCI Road World Cycling Championships coming to Wollongong in September 2022 we’re excited to share the UCI Bike City Label news with our community.

The UCI reinforces rider safety and its commitment to sustainable development 02/05/21 The Management Committee of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) met on 3 and 4 February. With travel restrictions still in place worldwide because of the health crisis (coronavirus pandemic), the meeting of the Federation’s executive body again took place by videoconference, and not during the recent UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Ostend (Belgium) as originally planned. The UCI Management Committee approved a plan to improve rider safety, approved a new strategy for sustainable development, awarded the UCI Bike City label to new cities and regions, and attributed the organisation of several events.

Shimano has been a UCI partner since 1999. (Twitter @RocdAzur) The two entities have been partners since 1999. The new agreement announced on Friday means Shimano will now be involved in the majority of the UCI World Championships including the maiden UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023 as well as in the UCI Mountain Bike and Cyclo-cross World Cups. Shimano will also step up its contribution to the UCI’s cycling development activities.

Team manager for Couplands Bakery/Booths Transport Team, Kevin Laskey, comes from Pahiatua. Included in the six-man team he led was Madi HartleyBrown, also from Pahiatua.

There’s been no explanation for the reason Ma dropped out of sight three months ago. Speculation says Ma is taking a low profile after critical comments about the Chinese banking system and government scrutiny of ANT, another company launched by Ma that is China’s largest online payment system.
