Block printing is fading in Pakistan. In India, the industry is booming
“I have been doing block printing work for the past 20 years with my husband,” 40-year-old Musarrat Fayyaz tells
The News on Sunday (TNS). “Our family has been associated with the centuries-old art for nearly 100 years. Our forefathers started the work in the pre-partition period in Mitro, a small village near Mailsi, in the Vehari district of southern Punjab.”
She says she learned block-printing from her in-laws when she got married to Fayyaz. She and her husband run a block printing business in Kahror Pakka tehsil. They also train girls in this area. Musarrat Fayyaz says mostly men are associated with this industry in this region; female workers are rare.
The decision to limit the use of liquid oxygen to medical purposes by all industries was taken at a review meeting chaired by home minister Amit Shah here on Sunday to review the oxygen supply situation as the country grapples with a second Covid wave.
A home ministry official said the new order would not affect the nine industries exempted by an order issued earlier on April 22, from the ban on supply of industrial oxygen by manufacturers and suppliers, as they use oxygen in a gaseous state and not in liquid form.
Invoking Section 10(2)(1) and Section 65 of the DM Act, the Centre directed the state/UT governments to ensure that “the use of liquid oxygen is not allowed for any non-medical purpose and that all manufacturing units may maximise their production of liquid oxygen, and make it available to the government for use for medical purposes only, with immediate effect and until further orders”.

New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards Wairarapa/Hawke s Bay Winners Field Day was held on the property of Andrew and Monica Arbuthnott, near Pahiatua on April 14.
Winners present were Share Farmers Manoj Kumar and Sumit Kamboj, Dairy Manager Leon McDonald and Dairy Trainee Tony Craig, who faced a question and answer session by Abby Scott from Dairy NZ to start the day.
A convoy of utes did a tour of the farm to inspect cows in the paddocks and the feed system.

The chief executive of Qatar Airways has poured cold water on hopes for a rapid recovery in aviation and warned of a need for more co-operation in creating vaccine passports to save the industry. I think the aviation recovery will not happen for quite a long period of time . . . I don t see that the worst is over yet, Akbar Al Baker said in an interview.
