MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - This week, the U.S. Department of Treasury is launching billions of dollars in funding to help cities, counties and states recover financially from the pandemic.
But towns in Horry County say what theyâre getting now isnât what had been discussed in the past, in fact, itâs millions of dollars less than what had been estimated.
The money was coming via the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, which are part of the American Rescue Plan.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper charged with third-degree assault and battery last year is now being sued for excessive force.
According to the State Law Enforcement Division, Eck had been involved in a fight with a suspected drunk driver on May 5, 2019, while he was off-duty.
The plaintiffs claim there’s more to their side of the story. Misconduct records WMBF News obtained also give more detail.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – On the 12-year anniversary of one of the most destructive wildfires in South Carolina history, firefighters are urging residents to use caution whenever they do outside burning.
The fire spread fast, scorching nearly 20,000 acres, destroying 76 homes and damaging 97 others. The flames forced 4,000 Horry County residents from their homes.
“Fortunately, no one was hurt during this incident, but the reason the fire started was that someone decided to burn debris and didn’t take the proper precautions to stay safe!” a Thursday post on the Myrtle Beach Fire Department’s Facebook page stated.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The American Red Cross of South Carolina wants to make one thing clear: you can still donate blood after getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
This comes at a time when the organization is seeing a decrease in people giving blood.
Meg Heath is the account manager for the state’s Red Cross Blood Services, handling all the blood drives for Horry County.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster will hold a briefing Tuesday afternoon at the mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic happening in Myrtle Beach.
According to a press release from McLeod Health, the press conference will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the S.C. Hall of Fame at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, where McLeod Health’s vaccination event is being held.
McMaster will be joined by Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune, McLeod Health Seacoast administrator Monica Vehige, and Dr. Matthew Weeks, chief medical officer for McLeod Loris Seacoast.
