UPDATE: Health Ministry on Wednesday, May 5, announced that the Covid-19 variant from India has been detected in Kenya.
Health DG Patrick Amoth stated that five cases were picked up on arrival into the country on Thursday last week before the ban on flights from India was imposed.
“Yes, this variant has been picked in Kenya, and because of global connectivity, it is just a question of time. You cannot be able to put barriers to prevent a virus from accessing your territory,” said Dr. Amoth.

Kenya has recorded 834 new Covid-19 cases, from a sample size of 8,498 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 9.8 per cent.
Of the cases, 805 are Kenyans while 29 are foreigners. 499 are males and 335 are females. The youngest is a fourteen-day-old infant while the oldest is 100 years.
During a briefing on Wednesday, April 28, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that 579 patients had recovered from the disease, 293 from home-based care, and 286 from various health facilities.

1851 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 9,676 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 19.1% up from 18.5% reported on Thursday.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Friday, April 2, announced that 19 deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours bringing the cumulative deaths to 2,186.
The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 136,893.
From the cases, 1,767 are Kenyans, 84 are foreigners while 991 are male and 860 are female. The youngest is a 7- year-old infant while the oldest has 99 years.
