While there has been substantial improvement in humanitarian access, active hostilities have been reported in the north-western, central, eastern, south-eastern and southern zones. Some humanitarian partners have accessed the towns of Gijet and Samre, in the southern and south-eastern zone, where they report that most of the population has fled. The Alamata-Mekelle-Adigrat-Shire road remains partially accessible.

Daily Noon Briefing Highlights – 6 April 2021 Sudan OCHA reports that 56 people have lost their lives in recent clashes between the Massalit and Arab communities in West Darfur’s capital, Ag Geneina. As a result of the insecurity, aid delivery to West Darfur has been suspended and humanitarian flights cancelled, interrupting assistance for 700,000 beneficiaries. A state of emergency has been declared in West Darfur and additional government forces have been deployed to Ag Geneina town. Sporadic shooting continues to be heard in several neighbourhoods. In January, conflict between the Massalit and Arab communities forced more than 100,000 people to flee their homes. Humanitarian partners have been providing food, health, sanitation and protection services to affected people in and around Ag Geneina, as well as shelter and non-food items.

Daily Noon Briefing Highlights – 5 April 2021 Indonesia At least 75 people have died, 70 are missing and 35 have been injured following heavy rains and flash floods in Indonesia. The figures will likely change as rapid assessments continue. Indonesia’s southern-most province of East Nusa Tenggara experienced heavy rains and strong winds due to tropical cyclone Seroja. The storm triggered flash floods in Adonara Island, East Flores Regency, causing 44 deaths and leaving tens of people missing or injured. At least 256 people have been evacuated. Floods are also reported in other regencies, with waves up to 6 metres high reported along the southern coasts of Timor Island.
