Late Holiday Island resident David Horton Bucknam left Good Shepherd Humane Society a generous gift when he left the earth two years ago.
Bucknam, who died Dec. 2, 2018, donated a $39,000 check to Good Shepherd in his estate. Good Shepherd board member Carmen Caldwell said the organization didnt receive the donation for a couple of years because the estate was being settled. When the check did arrive, Caldwell said, it couldnt have come at a better time.
It was a big deal to us this year, especially having to close the thrift stores for almost three months and not doing our annual fundraisers because of COVID-19, Caldwell said. That funding is crucial. Because of it, we didnt have to lay off any employees. We were able to take care of the animals and do everything we could for them.

In a 2017 interview with Eureka Springs Channels Melodye Purdy, Berryville contractor Jimmy Jones gazes at a giant hole in a downtown Eureka Springs parking lot. Purdy says shes heard a lot of good things about Jones from his employees and Jones chuckles.
Well, good, he says. I guess they wanted a raise.
After Jones passing last week, his friends in the community said all those good things were true.
John Cross, who commissioned Jones to repair the parking lot in 2017, said he worked with Jones many times over the years on CS Bank projects. Cross said Jones worked on projects throughout Carroll County and even traveled to Harrison, Huntsville and Missouri to do work for the bank.
