Thursday, February 4, 2021 Melodye Purdy of Purdy Art Company is this week’s Citizen of the Week. Purdy was nominated by J. Cne Breaux and Ilene Powell of Krewe du Kork for donating her time and talent to worthy organizations. Purdy takes portraits of the animal residents at Good Shepherd Humane Society, films Mardi Gras events and streams videos for local businesses through Eureka Springs Channel. “Through her wedding photography business, Melodye has become an introduction and ambassador for Eureka for those wishing to wed here and she delivers a product that is a beautiful experience and memory — enduring them to our beautiful town forever,” Breaux said.

Thursday, January 28, 2021 David Horton Bucknam and Allan Cruzan are this week’s Citizens of the Week. Both men recently passed away and made generous donations to Good Shepherd Humane Society from their estates. They were nominated by the Good Shepherd Humane Society board of directors, who said the donations came at the perfect time given the cancellation of fundraisers because of COVID-19. Thursday, January 14, 2021 All the volunteers that helped with the Good Shepherd Humane Society’s Spay and Neuter Clinic over the past weekend are this week’s Citizens of the Week. With the help of Spay Arkansas, Good Shepherd spayed and neutered 96 dogs and cats over two days. Animal operations manager Cole Wakefield thanked everyone, saying about 12 Carroll County residents volunteer to help with the spay and neuter clinic. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 Good Shepherd Humane Society dropped off several hundred pounds of cat and dog food at Loaves & Fishes Food Bank at the end of December to help local families take care of their pets. Submitted photo After adopting out 437 animals in 2020, Good Shepherd Humane Society has plans to create new programs to help local animals in 2021. Cole Wakefield, director of animal operations, said he’s working to create a community cat program. The program would be focused in Eureka Springs, Wakefield said, but would expand throughout Carroll County “with the goal of building a cat support community.” Wakefield said a group of volunteers will help save cats through the trap-and-release program, where feral cats are caught, spayed or neutered and released back into their environment.
