Vaccination of health workers at Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivli
MUMBAI: More women healthcare and frontline workers have taken the Covid-19 vaccine in the state than their male counterparts till date. As the state crossed 6 lakh vaccinations on Thursday, data revealed that 56% of the recipients were women.
In Mumbai though, where over 1 lakh vaccinations had been done by Thursday, officials said the distribution was nearly even. Officials said the state trend cannot be linked to hesitancy and was perhaps an indicator of gender distribution in the state’s health system.
The state completed vaccinating 6.1 lakh beneficiaries on Friday, the 19th day of vaccination, of whom 5.2 lakh are healthcare workers and 89,949 are frontliners. Over 3.4 lakh are women recipients and 2.6 lakh are men. The state has nearly 11 lakh healthcare workers registered for vaccination, the highest in the country.

New Delhi: The proportion of adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs) by Covishield has exceeded that for Covaxin, according to health ministry data. However, these have been minor for both and should put to rest any doubts about their safety, health officials and experts said.
India’s Covid-19 vaccine programme began on January 16 and has so far covered about 6.8 million people.
AEFIs for Covishield, made by Serum Institute of India (SII) and based on AstraZeneca-Oxford University technology numbered 8,402 or 0.192% of jabs, according to all-India data collated by the ministry of health and family welfare until February 4. Adverse events after administering Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin numbered 81 or 0.096%, it said.
