Weekly donations of $2 can go a long way towards helping local charities.
Norfolk County staff raised $27,120 last year through a weekly Dress Down Fridays fundraiser. The initiative, which began in 2001, sees eligible staff donate $2 so they can dress down in the office on Fridays.

Although the work location changed for many staff, the campaign continued. The donations also increased.
âLast year was a particularly difficult year for our community, which makes supporting local charities more important than ever before,â Erin Anderson, Norfolkâs director of human resources, said in a media release. âThere are many organizations doing fantastic work right here in Norfolk, and weâre happy to do our part to support them.â

A former general manager of the Norfolk County Fair is interested in trying her hand at federal politics.
Karen Matthews, 58, of Port Dover, announced her intention Monday to seek the Liberal Party of Canada nomination in Haldimand-Norfolk.

“I am seeking this nomination to continue the amazing work we have done together as a community,” Matthews said in a news release. “While I’m often credited with the expansion of programs for the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show and the Mumford and Sons Gentlemen of the Road stopover (in 2013), I never did this alone. We did this together as a community.”

One COVID-related death and 17 new cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit on Tuesday morning.
Seven new recoveries were also reported, making the local number of active cases 81 between the two counties.

Since the pandemic began there have been 817 positive cases of COVID-19 in Haldimand and Norfolk. Of the positive cases, 697 people have recovered.
There have been 91 new cases reported in the last two weeks.

The year 2020 will be remembered as one where popular award programs were delivered remotely over the internet.
The Simcoe and District Chamber of Commerce followed suit on Dec. 10 with the delivery of its annual awards program on Youtube over the noon hour.
