A 19-year-old Pennsylvania man wanted in connection with a December gunpoint robbery in Taftville has been extradited back to Norwich, police said today.
Kareem Swinton, of Allentown, Pa., is charged with first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm, fifth-degree larceny and weapons in a vehicle related a Dec. 27 robbery in which the victim’s cell phone and other items were stolen, Norwich police said.
Swinton was being held by Pennsylvania authorities on probation charges prior to his extradition. He being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to be presented in Norwich Superior Court on Monday.
A 19-year-old Norwich man, Osman Surur, of 22 Terrance Ave., was charged in February as a co-conspirator and driver in the robbery.

Norwich A Greeneville man’s alleged aggressive behavior and threats of violence during a confrontation with a roommate and a witness and subsequent arrest Sunday afternoon prompted police to seek a search and seizure warrant that led to the discovery of a cache of high-powered weapons, ammunition, two “live” pipe bombs and weapon-making materials.
According to police arrest reports filed at Norwich Superior Court, Andrew Cook, 57, of 165 Prospect St. appeared intoxicated, assaulted police and allegedly shouted at officers and two people identified as a victim and a witness in the initial confrontation, threatening that their “heads would be blown off.” Cook also allegedly threatened that he would burn the house to the ground.
NORWICH – 2020 was a tragic year for the city with the highest number of homicides – three – tallied between January and July, though as of Wednesday, suspects in each of the murder cases had been presented in court.
After three years without a homicide in Norwich, the first murder came on Jan. 18., 2020 with the stabbing death of 33-year-old Jason Beck at 31 Sandy Lane.
Jeffrey Stovall, Jr., 22, of 8 Malden St., Worcester, Mass., was charged with murder a day later after telling police Beck’s death was the result of a domestic argument.
He pleaded not guilty to the crime and his case is still winding its way through the pre-trial process. Stovall is due next in New London Superior Court on April 6.
