Congressmen Jim McGovern, Richard Neal tour former Boys Club facility in Worcester in search of federal solutions to help bolster its renovation

Jim McGovern looked up at the 30,000 square foot brick building at 2 Ionic Ave. in Worcester on Tuesday morning. Within the walls that date back more than a century, the congressman representing Massachusetts’ 2nd District was reminded of the trips he made to the building as a child.
At that time, the city knew the building as the Boys Club. It welcomed nearly 2,000 boys daily for swimming, basketball, boxing, chess and other activities. McGovern said he learned how to swim in the pool at the facility.

COVID-19 in Leon County:
A total of 29,597 Leon County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, an increase of 43 cases since Monday.
Two-week positivity rate: roughly 2.9%.
Confirmed deaths:
A total confirmed 307 Leon County residents have died because of the virus.
One more Franklin County person has died because of the virus, which puts the county s death total at 18.
One more Jackson County person has died because of the virus, which puts the county s death total at 156.
Local hospitalizations:
Capital Regional Medical Center reported three inpatients positive for the virus.
Vaccinations:
At least 50,824 Leon County residents have been fully vaccinated by either the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two-shot series Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
