The Children & Family Resource Center has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Truist Foundation to expand the book collection of early childhood classrooms in Henderson County to include more stories and images of diverse children and books celebrating and honoring differences.
Reading diverse children s literature with its youngest learners helps them become more accepting, compassionate and supports the full inclusion of all children, CFRC said in a news release. Children s books are one of the most effective tools to engage with young children on important issues. Our team has been curating a list of books that represent the diverse experiences of children for months now. We appreciate the opportunity to add books to classroom libraries that acknowledge and celebrate differences, supporting culturally responsive child care centers and family child care homes thanks to the Truist Foundation grant, Executive Director Jamie Wiener said in the release.
