The City of Los Angeles will require employees to show proof they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, or face mandatory weekly testing, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti announced on Tuesday evening.
The move will impact about 50,000 city employees, including both the police and fire departments.
Employees won’t be able to simply give their word about being vaccinated, which is known as “self-attestation.” Instead, they will be required to submit documentation of their immunization. Any city employee who isn’t vaccinated will be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test at least once a week.

An emergency shelter for unaccompanied migrant children at the Long Beach Convention Center has closed its doors two weeks ahead of schedule. According to Long Beach officials, nearly all the children housed there have been reunited with U.S. relatives or sponsors.

Asm. Reggie Jones-Sawyer sponsored legislation to extend sunset date of the crime of organized retail theft
Governor Gavin Newson called up Assembly member Reginald Jones-Sawyer (D-Los Angeles) as Newsom signed into law AB 331 to help the state apply resources to reduce crime and stop organized retail theft.
The signing took place July 21 at The Hangout, a small business in Long Beach. Jones-Sawyer sponsored the legislation to extend the sunset date to January 1, 2026 of the crime of organized retail theft and the California Highway Patrol Organized Retail Crime Task Force.

Long Beach is getting ready to kick off a new guaranteed income program for 500 residents in the 90813 zip code.
According to Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, the new initiative will provide 500 residents with $500 in guaranteed income for a year.
“Our guaranteed income program will help single parents and families with direct assistance and basic needs in a community that has long struggled with poverty,” Garcia said in a statement. “The research collected from this pilot will help us build a national case for these programs across the country and our city.”
So who qualifies? The participants selected for the pilot program will mostly include single-parent households that earn under the poverty line.
