PORT ALLEN – A former military judicial officer and state fraud prosecutor was among a handful of people indicted in a corruption investigation Friday.
A West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted a group of people on charges related to allegations they funneled more than $800,000 in government money through a scheme that washed the money and put it back into the pockets of the scheme ringleaders, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said the group was falsifying invoices, inflating costs and skimming the difference.

LAS CRUCES - A man charged with child abuse resulting in the death of an infant was granted potential release from the Doña Ana County Detention Center on a $25,000 secured bond Tuesday.
Ramirez is charged with two first-degree felonies intentional abuse of a child under 12 resulting in death and abuse of a child resulting in great bodily harm.
Third Judicial District Judge Richard Jacquez set Ramirez s bond at $25,000 in a pretrial detention hearing Tuesday morning and according to the Third Judicial District Attorney s Office, ruled the court could fashion release conditions reasonably tailored to protect the community. The conditions of release include:
