Local newspaperman, Dana Bowley, dies

LOS LUNAS—New Mexico has lost a dedicated newspaperman, father and community servant. Someone who engaged fully and wholeheartedly in his passions, Dana Bowley, 73, of Los Lunas, died on Monday, Dec. 28. Dana Bowley 1947-2020 Many in Valencia and Socorro counties knew Bowley from his years as a reporter, editor and general manager at newspapers in those communities. Others will remember him as a devoted parishioner at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Los Lunas. A founder of the church, which was completed in 2012, Bowley was a long-time member of the bishop’s committee and served as treasurer for the church.

The Lake Oswego resident, civic leader and former CEO and founder of Hasson Company Realtors was diagnosed 10 years ago with a malignant tumor caused by inhaled asbestos fibers, according to his family. Hasson, who was a competitive athlete in high school, prepared himself physically and mentally to take on the cancer and defied the one-year prognosis for 10 years, said his brother, Barry Hasson. “He endured surgeries and treatments without self pity,” said Barry Hasson, a builder, who does not know how his brother was exposed to asbestos. “He won battle after battle but sadly lost the war.”

–The general election may be over, but work continues for the California Democratic Party as it organizes the Assembly District Elections Meeting (ADEM). Held every two years, and virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these meetings elect delegates who will represent their respective Assembly Districts, promote the Democratic Party agenda, and endorse key candidates. The filing period to be a delegate has closed, but the election process for delegates is just beginning. Any registered Democrat in the state of California is eligible to vote in their respective district and can submit an application to https://ademelections.com/?isCandidate=False before midnight on Jan. 11.

He was a loving and generous man, whose arms enveloped you with a bear hug. The core of his life was his love for his family. He found the greatest joy in being with family and friends. His easy laugh and jovial nature left everyone in his life smiling after being in his presence. His loved ones, friends, and colleagues will always remember his playful silliness, the twinkle in his eye and his generosity. Many will especially remember his amazing cheese buffets at holiday time, introducing admiring friends and family to exotic cheeses from around the world. Born on Feb. 19, 1940, he had a happy early childhood with summers spent in Point Pleasant Beach and Newfound Lake, N.H., vacationing with extended family.
