Sr. Mary Berigan of the Sisters of Notre Dame was principal at a Catholic elementary school, and Donna Humphrey was a certified public accountant, but both volunteered as Court Appointed Special Advoc.
Thirteen new volunteer advocates were sworn in on May 20 by the Lake County Juvenile Court to advocate for foster children who have suffered abuse and neglect.

The Stephenville Parks and Rec Department is offering a summer swimming league.
It is for those ages 5-18 and registration is open until June 15. Cost is $60 per participant with a $20 swimsuit add-on, if applicable.
A parents/coaches meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the small pavilion. Practices will begin the week of June 1.
Meets are held each Saturday in June.

Human Trafficking Prevention Commission Advisory Board
The Human Trafficking Prevention Commission Advisory Board’s mission is to assist state and local leaders in developing and coordinating human trafficking prevention programs, to identify gaps in prevention and intervention services, to conduct a continuing comprehensive review of all existing public and private human trafficking programs, to increase coordination among public and private programs to strengthen prevention and intervention services, and ultimately, to make recommendations with respect to human trafficking prevention and intervention.
Linsey L. Barnard of Shreveport has been appointed to the Human Trafficking Prevention and Advisory Commission. Barnard is the director of Hub Ministry and will serve as an executive director of a direct service program for victims.

It was nothing short of an epiphany.
One day last summer, Barb Childs looked out the window at a trio of boys playing in her yard on New Dam Road in North Waterboro.
All brothers – Wyatt, now 14, Landen, 11, and Gavin, 7 – they’d lived with Childs for more than a year as foster children, gladly trading what had been tumultuous lives for this peaceful, comfortable home in the woods of western York County.
