Trial Date Set for Sheridan Man Charged With Three Counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor Cody Knode pleaded “not guilty” to three counts of Third Degree Sexual Abuse of a Minor at an arraignment hearing in District Court Thursday. The alleged crimes occurred between November 1, 2020, and January 4 of this year. District Court Judge John Fenn scheduled a three-day jury trial to begin on Monday, November 29, and set the pretrial conference for November 2 at 9 am. Knode was sentenced last month to 1 ½ to 2 years in prison for the charge of Felony Taking a Controlled Substance Into Jail for attempting to take methamphetamine into the Sheridan County Detention Center on January 11. Knode was sent to jail because he had his probation revoked for several failed drug tests through Sheridan County Probation and Parole. Sheridan Man Sentenced to Prison for Strangulation On May 7, 2020, law enforcement responded to an incident at a hotel in Sheridan and soon after their arrival on scene, arrested Robert Babb for the crime of Strangulation of a Household Member. In April, Babb, at a change of plea hearing in District Court, pleaded “guilty” to the charge pursuant to a plea agreement that was reached with the State.  A sentencing hearing was held Thursday in District Court where Sheridan County Deputing Prosecuting Attorney Christina White recommended that the Court accept the terms of the plea agreement and sentence Babb to 2 ½ to 5 years in prison.

Defendant Fails to Show for Sentencing Hearing in District Court In December of 2020, Cory Morton was arrested and charged with eight counts of Felony Forgery for issuing checks from a closed checking account that once belonged to his deceased father. The checks were issued at several different businesses in Sheridan last year between December 18 and the 22. On April 15, Morton at a change of plea hearing in District Court in Sheridan, pleaded guilty to all eight counts as part of a plea agreement that was reached with the State. Morton failed to show up for a sentencing hearing that had been recently scheduled in District Court. Morton also failed to complete a presentence investigation with Probation and Parole prior to the sentencing date.
