AUSTIN â With Memorial Day and summertime temperatures rapidly approaching, Texans will be getting out on the water. Now more than ever, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is urging boaters and paddlers who hit the water this summer to do their part to fight back against aquatic invasive species, such as giant salvinia and zebra mussels, threatening Texas lakes.
âMemorial Day weekend is the unofficial kick-off to boating season in Texas, and while we want everyone to have a great time, we also want them to avoid giving free rides to invasive species and helping them travel to new lakes,â said Brian Van Zee, TPWD Inland Fisheries Regional Director. âThe best way to prevent the spread of destructive invasive species is to clean, drain and dry your boats and equipment â every time.â

District 4 - Walker area
CO (Conservation Officer) Jacque Hughes (Longville) removed and released a snapping turtle that had fallen into an egress window. She also checked angling activity. Enforcement was taken for no license in possession and expired registration.
CO Michael Cross (Lake George) primarily focused on angling and ATV enforcement. Cross worked with the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office on OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) enforcement. He also assisted the sheriff’s office with traffic violations. Anglers had fair success throughout the week with the walleye and crappie bites remaining steady. Enforcement action for the week included watercraft and angling violations.
